Who Am I?
I run a private piano teaching studio from my home on the south coast of England, teaching 30+ students and maintaining a waiting list of over 50 prospective students.
It wasn’t always that way of course, I started off, in 2007, teaching part time in the evenings after my then ‘main job’ in pharmaceutical market research. I didn’t really know what I was doing, but I knew from that first lesson that I loved piano teaching.
In 2019, I switched to full time teaching and that’s when I got really clear about my approaches to admin, teaching, professional development and everything that goes into running a successful business.
Every day I read posts from teachers struggling with lesson cancellations or how to respond to a parent’s request; those feeling burnt out from teaching too many students yet not making enough to support their families.
In 2024, I decided I wanted to share what I’ve learned along the way and help those teachers who need support in navigating the many decisions that come with running a teaching business. I love connecting with music teachers every day online, sharing ideas, discussing common issues and celebrating wins.
Who is Mentoring for?
Mentoring sessions are perfect for teachers who:
Feel overwhelmed managing studio admin alongside teaching
Struggle to attract their ideal students
Want to grow their student cohort but aren’t sure how to go about it
Find it difficult to say no to unreasonable parent/ student requests
Need some guidance in breaking things down into manageable steps
Desire a better work-life balance in their teaching career
What Can We Cover?
I’m here to help with all aspects of being a piano teacher. These can be broadly divided into the following three areas:
Growing your studio with the right students
Attracting students who genuinely want to learn and progress
Building relationships with families who value music education
Creating a waiting list of your ideal students
Making your studio run smoothly
Setting up systems that save you time on admin tasks
Creating clear policies that prevent misunderstandings
Managing your schedule so you're not constantly overwhelmed
Developing confidence in running your studio
Building confidence in your teaching methods
Learning to run your studio like a proper business
Planning for sustainable growth that doesn't lead to burnout
If, for any reason, your needs fall outside my realm of experience, I will point you in the direction of a mentor better suited to your needs.
